Are you talking about the drug testing involving analyzing the hair follicle or shaft or something like that? Not likely. The hair is extracted from your scalp for testing, not testing while still firmly implanted in your scalp.

With a condition like lupus, you shouldn’t be experimenting with unproven treatments for any other related or unrelated condition. Use a keratolytic shampoo specifically intended for psoriasis.
Most keratolytics are available over the counter. The ingredients most commonly found in keratolytics include salicylic acid, urea, lactic acid, coal tar, and sulfur. Consult a dermatologist for specific recommendations and possible prescription treatments.
Dermarest makes a shampoo specifically for psoriasis, which is available from drugstore.com and may also be available from your local pharmacy.
Hair loss in Samoyed with Lupus?
My 12 year old Samoyed was diagnosed with Lupus several years ago. The top of her head feels granular, like she has sand on her scalp (she doesn’t though). The hair is falling out in clumps leaving the top of her head completely bald. This happened last year at about the same time. Maybe the sun is causing it? I am in Alberta and it is just warming up. The skin looks fine… just very naked. Any ideas on this?
Hello.. I’m so sorry to hear your Sam has Lupus. You’ve obviously been doing a good job regulating it since she’s made it to 12 years old!!!
Yes, it absolutely could be the sun contributing to the issue- especially combined with the seasonal spring shed most Sams go through and possibly combined with an immune reaction to the sudden onslaught of a variety of spring pollens – the only Sam I’ve ever known with Lupus wore a modified baseball cap when he was out in the sun.
What does your vet say?
Have you had a full thyroid panel done lately? Sams can often develop a low thyroid- which leads to decreased quality of fur as well as complete loss of fur on, of all places, the tail (bleh rat tail!!) and the top of the head- again this can be influenced by weather and other stressors.
Thanks berner mom for pointing out the question!!
Edit: As an interesting side note: Some unspayed Samoyed bitches go down to near completely nekkid when shedding out- leaving only wisps of topcoat still on the body and you can see their skin when the wind blows… as the new undercoat comes in the top coat all falls out, leaving the b*tch in 1/4 inch long undercoat- sort of looking as if she’s wearing fuzzy footy pajamas!
I have lupus ,if I take A DRUG HAIR TEST WILL THAT AFFECT MY ALREADY SINSITIVE SCALP?
